Much progress has been accomplished since then: The pillars have been stenciled and gilded. The stenciling around the windows finished. The ceiling base color has been painted with most of the half moon blue inserts set in. Work is now centering in the choir loft to have it completed so that it will be ready to receive the organ. [More on the pipe organ later .... how's that for suspense?!] The new confessional area is ready to receive sinners.
On Thursday, May 26th, one of the painters was scraping a wall in the foyer and noticed a bit of a red color with some kind of shape. He stopped and called Fr. Ed. over [who was just passing through, honest] who advised that he wait for Ms. Donnel and have her explore. When Fr. Ed. returned later in the afternoon, Ms. Donnel had uncovered a beautifully caligraphied phrase in gold written in German. We called Dr. Antonio Loro's wife, Gretchen, who translated the phrase for us. It reads: "Come to me all you who labor hard and are burdened and I will lighten your load". Be sure to peek in and see what for some many generations greeted those hard working farmers who came to church on Sundays to worship and now will be greeting us.
The church is always open. You're welcome to come through even during the week and see how the progress is coming. However, be careful not to engage Ms. Donnel in conversation. She needs to get her work done and you need to be getting home at a reasonable hour.
