AND NOW A WORD FROM YOUR PASTOR....
You never know what an 89 year old woman will do. However, when the 89 year old woman happens to be my Mother, you shouldn't be surprised. I have to admit that this time, I was a bit floored.
When I was seven years old, my family moved into the house that we would occupy for 52 years. Previously we had lived in a very small house behind our first grocery store on Port Avenue in Corpus Christi. It was so small that, when my sister was born and my Mom had some complications, I was sent to live with my Aunt, Uncle and cousins in Robstown where I was enrolled in the first grade. I came back home for 2nd grade, my brother beginning 1st grade. At that time we lived in the boundary of Christ the King Church, though we went to the Czech church of St. Cyril and Methodius.

Late Nite Catechism a huge success
Late Nite Catechism was a huge success. Our thanks to Mimi Loftus, Freddie Seale and the whole team who worked tireless days to bring the production to St. Mary's. A thoroughly good time was had by all!
Maybe next year, we can host the sequel???
St. Mary's Choir
Have you ever noticed how people sing so naturally at birthday parties or on New Year's Eve? Or at charismatic gatherings? Or even on July 4th as they join in "God Bless America"?
Those who study this phenomenon tell us that singing comes naturally to people who have something to sing about, when events or memories so move the heart that vocal expression automatically results. Our song, if it is to be a Christian song, must reflect and flow from our faith in Christ and His message. We must be faith-filled singers.
Prayer:
Almighty and all-powerful God, You strengthen and protect all who call upon You. Pour out Your blessings among us so that the praises we sing may flow from hearts that are strong in faith and filled with Love. Amen.
Join us for choir practice on Wednesday evenings from 7 - 8:30 pm. Or use your talents with the Bells of St. Mary's, our hand bell choir, which meets at 6pm on Monday evenings.
Jubilate Deo!
Kudos to Father Kelly!
CLERGYMAN OF THE YEAR AWARDED TO FR. KELLY
Rev. William "Bill" Kelly, UST assistant professor of theology for 22 years, received the "Clergyman of the Year" award from the Knights of Columbus for the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston in January at the annual clergy appreciation banquet.
For the past six years, Fr. Kelly has worked two jobs, one as a UST professor and the other as the pastor of St. Anthony de Padua Parish in Danbury, Texas.
The winners of the award are nominated based on four qualities: service to parish, service to community, service to Knights of Columbus and their parish and the extra way the nominator presented the case.
Kelly's nomination included his extensive experience and devotion to his parishioners and community in Danbury and testimonials about "the good Fr. Kelly and his works," said Duke Marasigan, president of the Knights of Columbus for the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.
"I was just gratified that other people thought I was doing a good job," Kelly said, remembering his initial reaction to receiving the award.
The Knights of Columbus is the largest Catholic men's fraternal organization whose main principle is charity with 114 councils in the archdiocese and 52 of those belonging to the Galveston-Houston chapter.
From the Vocations Committee
Dear Jesus, you know each of us and call us by name to serve you in faith. Give courage and guidance to those you call to be priests, deacons, religious, members of secular institutes, and lay ministers. May we all respond wholeheartedly and serve devotedly.
The Vocations Committee of St. Mary/St. Joseph congratulates all who made their First Holy Communion and Confirmation sacraments during the month of May. May Christ continue to bless you as you learn to love Him more each day.
Please join us every Wednesday at 9:00am Mass as we pray before the Blessed Sacrament for those being called to religious vocations.
God's Gardeners
Many dedicated rose lovers have secret recipes for rose fertilizers that border on black magic, but we have found that most commercial rose foods and organic fertilizers produce good results. The important thing about any fertilizer application is that plenteous water will be wanted; both to dissolve the fertilizer into a form the rose can use and to clean any residue off the bush. Chemical fertilizers can burn or even kill a plant if over-used, as many of us know from having killed a favorite rose through generosity. Read the label, and when in doubt, remember less fertilizer is better than more. Always water heavily. We admit to preferring organic fertilizers (such as fish emulsion or manure) for their beneficial rejuvenation of the living organisms in the soil. Healthy soil grows healthy plants. Organic fertilizer can be combined with slow-release pellets (such as Osmocote) to keep container grown roses at their peak. For those who simply want to keep their roses healthy and vigorous, one feeding in spring and another in early fall should suffice. For maximum performance, begin feeding about 2 weeks before the last frost date for your area and continue at 4 to 6 week intervals until 6 weeks before the earliest frost date for your area. For the last feeding of the year, you might want to use a high phosphorus compound so that your plant will shift to a slower, tougher growth in preparation for cold weather.
God's Gardeners is going to take a "summer vacation"... there will be no meetings for the months of June, July and August... but keep reading our monthly articles for gardening tips.
A note from the parish secretary...
Did you know that every month, we mail out over 200 bulletins to places all over the United States? We send them to former parishioners who have moved away and relatives of current parishioners; some go out to our homebound parishioners who are unable to come to church and others go out to our many friends we have met along the way. It's a wonderful way to keep our friends and family updated with what's going on, not only in the parish, but in our community.
If you know someone who would enjoy receiving our monthly bulletin, please call me at the Parish Office so I can add them to our mailing list.
Also, if you have information that you'd like to have put in the bulletin, please let me know before the 10th of each month.
