You're Invited - Feast Day of St. Vincent de Paul
Tuesday, September 27th is the Feast Day of St. Vincent de Paul. All parishioners of St. Mary's/St. Joseph's are invited to a special Mass at 5:30 pm at St. Mary's followed by a dinner in the Church Hall (BYOB). Not only will we be celebrating his Feast Day, but this occasion gives our organization the opportunity to show our gratitude to the parishioners for their support. Vincent de Paul was born in France on April 24, 1581. Vincent devoted himself entirely to the alleviation of the sufferings of the poor. Vincent died in Paris on September 27, 1660, and was canonized in 1737. Pope Leo XIII appointed him patron saint of all works of charity of the Catholic Church in 1883.

And Now A Word From Your Pastor....
Saying good-by to the Eternal City...continued from last month...
Leaving Rome was actually a relief. It was hot and very crowded. It was said that Rome hadn’t experienced such crowds even during the Holy Year of 2000. The death of Pope John Paul II evidently brought the influx of pilgrims/tourists. The drive back to the ship was what was needed to relax and unwind after such a crush of humanity.
I especially enjoyed the time we spent at sea. These were the days of getting up early and staking out a deck chair in the seawater pool and spa. On these day I usually spent reading a book throughout the day, pausing to cruise the food layouts in the different areas of the ship. I had intended to use the workout facilities, but decided it wasn’t meant to be because I’d forgotten my tennis shoes. Shoes in the gym were required. Darn.
Updated Website
TAKE A LOOK!! Check out our new parish website at smsj.org. It has been completely rebuilt and is currently being updated, but I need your help. The following items are needed from ministry and organization leaders: - Description of your ministry or organization
- Meeting and event schedules
- Photos (preferably digital on CD or e-mailed)
- News articles
Whenever you update any information, send me a copy and I’ll add it to the site. Each ministry page can have a random photo generator and a schedule calendar and we also have an easy to update photo gallery and news server. All of these features are currently operating on the site so you can get an idea of what can be done. Comments, constructive criticism and complaints are always welcome.
